The Parrette Page

No, no, no ... it's not pronounced parrot! As I said on my home page, I pronounce it as barrette (a bar or clasp for holding a girl's hair in place) with a 'P.' And I'm sure that the correct French pronunciation is yet still different.

However, regardless of how you pronounce it, if your last name is Parrette, this page is for you. The intent of this page is to provide a nationwide directory of sorts with a listing of all of the people named Parrette (from anywho.com as of 5/2010), and, who have an e-mail address and/or a Web page in the world.

If you ever get to visit England, try to arrange to stop by Somerset where you will find The River Parrett Trail. From Roy Parrett (who has actually been to Somerest and visited the river)"... along the River Parrett, I researched the name. It evolved from Pedrestrem, 1324; Pedridan, Pedredan & Peret (1223), meaning 'foot of the stream.' When the Normans came to England in 1066 ... [they] requir[ed] last names ... most were not educated, names got corrupted. Near Portland, Oregon, Parrett Mountain, and weather station was named for three Parretts who came from England, in pioneer days, and who took up farms miles apart. Some spelled the family one way, some another, so today there are numerous spellings in use.

Bill's Family Tree

The following is the small portion of my family tree that I am aware of. There are a few details that I know about, as well. Frank Parrette and his wife Carol lived in and around the town of Greyhawk, KY (southeast of Lexington, KY) in the early 1900s. That is where my father, Vernon Parrette, was born. The family moved to College Corner, IN (probably in the 1930s) where my father grew up. College Corner is just up the road from Oxford, OH -- the home of Miami University. Vernon was in the Air Force and eventually relocated to southern California where he met and married my mother, Geraldine Smith. They lived in Los Angeles where both I and my sister (Victoria) were born. They moved to West Covina, California soon after and raised both of us there before moving to Oxford, OH in the mid 1960s. I currently reside in Sharonville/Cincinnati, OH while my sister recently moved to Florida.
