This one is called "Guitar School presents...MAXIMUM GUITAR" or just MAXIMUM GUITAR. It's the Sept '97 issue. I subscribe to Guitar School and I guess that's why they sent me this? Anyway, one of the songs that is transcribed is American Band, both guitar and bass. For those of you guitar nuts, it's almost the same transcription they did in the May '92 issue of Guitar School, at least it's by the same guys. Anyway, the transcriptions are fine but some of the lyrics are a joke. It's almost as bad as some of those Japanese import CD lyrics. Check this out... Love all night we're thinking I got to tell ya coke is his thing Sweet sweet Connie had turned her act... All them Chiquitas in Omaha... And here's a couple of clips from the May '92 issue. All they had to do is go out to Bill's site and go to the lyrics page. Just had to share this with you guys. Hi Everybody! I joined your group a couple weeks ago, I guess. My brother turned me on to Grand Funk years ago, when their "Survival" Album came out. I've loved them ever since! I saw them in concert years ago, at the, Civic Arena, in Pittsburgh, PA. It was GREAT! I think I've seen them more than once? I don't know how you all remember back so well? Anyway, I've gotten very involved in some of the stories some of you have written about seeing GRAND FUNK in Vegas. I feel young again, as I'm getting more and more into Grand Funk! I don't like the negative talk about who is better etc. I think we can feel young without acting childish? Mark, Don, and Mel make up GRAND FUNK! Each are very talented. I'm sittin' here in my own cave this morning and my buddy Bill (and old GFR fan) is talking to this guy who sits right behind me. And they're talking about airfare to OKC for $49 one way from Co Springs (which is where I'm at). So I turn around to Bill and say you know, GFR is playing in OKC in the near future. So he perks right up and says when. So, I go out to Donna's site (tried Sunny's but couldn't get to it) and it says July 16, next Wed! That's only six days away! Darn! These special deals always have a 7 or 14 or 21 day advance blah, blah, blah restriction. Oh well, just wanted to let you know that I almost made it!! Instead I'll be seeing Styx and Pat Benetar on Tue, the 15th. That won't be bad but it certainly won't compare to GFR! And yes I would've blew off that show in a heartbeat to go to OKC. I think some of our members might not realize that this list is world-wide. In any case, please don't mistake partisanship for prejudice. Some people get a little worked up when comparing bands. The Stones got a lot of critical acclaim, but GFR put out the stronger albums of the two bands. I, like many Grand Funk fans, am a little put out by the lack of appreciation the guys get from the so-called music experts. I can't speak for whoever made those comments, but I believe they were speaking out in defense of GFR, not against our British brothers and sisters. I hope you remain on the list, my friend. My brother and I talked to him for about 10 min's. He was very nice, not in your face kind of guy. He traeted us like we were old friends. We mostly talked about the old GFR days. Go to donna W's site and read mark testamonials and you will read simular expirences. Somewhere in her archived interactive section. Do you mean he actually something like you need to be saved like a preacher or something like hears a song about the love from above. Also I would give my word not to do whatever and I should hope that would be enough instead of a contract, I read an interview about them getting back together and it seemed to contredict them waiting for Mark. i'll see if I still have the interview, It was quoting them. Saying that they had to talk Don into it. Maybe it was mis-information, you know the press. If anyone has this interview let us know. Rick ; ) P.S. does this mean mark cannot sing " I can feel him in the morning" in concert, they never have, so would they think mark was trying to backdoor religion it the Funk? ------------------------------ From: tom fagan Date: Thu, 10 Jul 1997 18:34:04 -0700 Subject: Re: Questions einar@rfci.net wrote: > > Pat wrote: > > > > Everyone seems to think that the Phoenix album was one of GFR's worst, but > > it's my favorite, mainly because of the fact that they produced it > > themselves. Some of you see my postings with my full name, Mike Sargent or M. Sargent but since I just subscribed last week to this forum I now see where the action is! From now on my nickname will merely be SARGE. After receiving nearly 150 emails in the last two days I feel compelled to join in the fray with my thoughts as a 25 year fan. 1. I like Phoenix, it was the first album I bought myself and I worked backwards in their catalog from there. It's a transitional album but I find it refreshing. It may have been the precursor to the end of the original grand funk sound but it brings back great memories for me. Surely no one would argue that ATGITWB or even Shinin' On is better...... 2. I am amazed at the Stones Bashing. Put on Let it Bleed, Stickey Fingers,or Exile on Main Street and then tell me these albums are no good. I have absolutely no doubt that if Mark, Don or Mel were posting to this site they would say you were nuts for saying that about the Stones. I suspect they are fans. 3. My question for the group - How long does it take to get that Beacon video? I ordered it from the guy in Goldmine three weeks ago. Should I write this off as a bad investment?? 4. Am I the only GFR fan in Indiana? If so I declare myself the head of the Indiana Chapter of the Grand Funk Fan club! If they come to Indianapolis I will arrange a meeting of any roadkillers, and I think I might help get them on the Bob and Tom Show. Sorry to be longwinded and hope this does not set off a barrage of responses. My original post said that I read that the reunion was contingent on Mark "signing a contract" agreeing not to preach, as that's what I thought I remembered reading. However, those two newspaper articles I found and posted actually just say Mark "agreed" and that there were "negotiations". While these do sorta give the impression that there was something in writing, they never actually say that, so it's possible it could be a verbal agreement, if it even happened at all. Just wanted to clarify that so I can't be accused of "spreading rumors" :) Robin ------------------------------ From: "Mike & Lorrie" Date: Thu, 10 Jul 1997 23:07:58 -0400 Subject: 2nd favorite The mighty zeppelin! You have jogged my memory on something Donna! I remember reading in Parade magazine that when Mark was 29 he married a 16 year old girl from Michigan who supposedly knew nothing of his days on the 'railroad'. I believe the year was about 1978. Now don't jump all over me about starting rumours guys. This is just what I read and I still have the clipping somewhere in my pile of stuff. Can anybody shed any light on this? Was it complete bullshit? Does anybody know for a fact? Dear Bill, Ken Blackley and I worked together on the tablature for "Bad Time". It is on Donna's sight. The chords are perfect and the lyrics are probably very close. I've seen this tune incorrectly tabbed elsewhere on the 'net. As far as I know, Donna is the only one with the correct version. Later.
