The original 'new release sticker' is on the shrink wrap. The cover is a very strong MINT condition. Needless to say, everything inside is still intact. I am considering trades only for other Grand Funk items. Check out your duplicates or other things you want to get rid of. I immediately handed it off to my wife with excitement, "Taste this!" She sipped and said, "Wow, this tastes like a milkshake!" Which is , in fact, a compliment. That first mouthful had a wonderful chocolate-like flavor and an indescribable(sp) finish. And that alcohol content, you had that jacked way up there. In short we both loved it! You know, all the references to Little Rock, Sweet sweet Connie, and especially Freddie King. Freddie King did tour with them during Phoenix. My vote is that it was written during the '72 tour when Knight was long gone. Unless he changed the original wording around to match "current events"? Thanks for the responses to the "Background Sounds"...it's interesting to think about and discuss. As I listened to "Shinin' On" I also notice some of the harmonies....well,....aren't so harmonious. I'm one of those people who go "e-e-er-r-rk-k-k!" when I hear something a little flat or sharp. But the more I listen to it, the more I like the sound. It GIVES THE CERTAIN HUMAN QUALITY that most songs don't have now, because of the digital/MIDI capabilities that can transpose those notes that are a little "off-key" and can quantize those beats that are a little off the mark. What you HEAR on the Grand Funk Recordings is what you GET in Concert for the most part. Unlike some of those studio bands that sound like "Mama washing the Cat" when they perform live! I've got to get that interview tape. My friend told me that Brewer and Peter Frampton were arguing in a bar about whether there were more British bands or American bands. They went on for a time, each naming bands from their preferred genre. When Brewer couldn't name any more American bands, he slammed his beer bottle on the bar and turned to Frampton and said, "well, we're an American band!" Maybe we'll ask M,D & M to straighten this out at '98 Funkfest! I'm no good with lyrics but the "four young chiquitas in Omaha waitin' for the band to return from the show" line in "WAAB", I always thought referred to 4 women(possibly hispanic). We'll get this straightened out someday. We are all definitely not on the same wavelength regarding the noises in IYC/CTH. I was referring to what seems to be sound booth noise 52 seconds into the song right after Mark sings "I'm your captain" for the second time. I can't believe it's in there. Anyway Phil, I want to say that is was a pleasure meeting you and Mick at the Westside. I was the guy with the "Wake Up"(orange) shirt on who thought that he had seen you before. Later. I'll catch you Funksters in June. I'm going on vaca, and a computer is the LAST thing I want to deal with. My personal e-mail has a limit, and I'd rather not have it fill and cause grief and annoyance. My thoughts are with you all. Of course, if anything BIG happens with GFR (like if they are coming to Dallas to fill Texas Stadium), I'll definitely know about that. I realize that Chaquita means chick but there were 4 of them for the 4 boys in the band. That's what I mean. Otherwise it would've been 3 Chaquitas. We'll get this straightened out someday. OK, I'll repeat myself again. You guys must think I'm a total idiot! I know that the 4 chiquitas are women but the point is that there were 4 of them, not 3, so Craig Frost is included, one chiquita per guy! I thought that would be obvious to everyone but I forgot who I'm dealing with here! :-) > We are all definitely not on the same wavelength regarding the noises in > IYC/CTH. I know what you're talking about also. That's the part where SOMEBODY, I don't know who, goes "Alright, Alright" or something like that. I always thought that it was pretty cool that they left that in there. I'm sure everybody involved was well aware that it was there. > Anyway Phil, I want to say > that is was a pleasure meeting you and Mick at the Westside. Sorry I didn't have more of a chance to talk to you. I think you were yapping (or maybe listening) to my buddy Al (backstage NOT) most of the time? Or was it Ken. Actually I think it was Ken.
