Use Ticketmaster to either purchase tickets online or at least learn when they are going on sale. In particular, every Friday morning check out the "Weekly On Sale" page within "Box Ofice" to get a nationwide list of ticket sales; i.e.: sale times, concert date, etc. With Pollstar and "Weekly On Sale" you will never be without a ticket and most of the time can get the best seats available on the day of sale. Also, I have printed the seating charts of all the venues I would normally go to and never purchase tickets without knowing what sections I want. I am 29 and have alot of different musical tastes. As far as being stuck in the '70's, I grew up with music in my house and it all just stuck with me. Most of the GFR albums I have are my dad's old albums. GFR is at the top of my top 20 fave bands of all time!!!! I just don't like very much new music. The only newer artists I really like are Lenny Kravitz, COC, RHCP, TOOL and a band called Gov'tMule(these guys are KILLER!!). I also collect ALOT of live tapes. Here are just a few other bands I like besides GFR Frank Zappa(have 500+ hours of live shows, including many killer soundboard tapes.) George Clinton/Parliament/Funkadelic(have 300+ hours of live shows from '71-'97 with many master soundboard tapes, pro shot videos and 8mm masters on video. George is close friend of mine as are other members of his band.) Or just UPS to Fishoff or Sunny or Greg to insure they get it. But I'm not implying anything illegal, just something that must be accomplished by someone "ill" and full of "gall" "Grand Funk" the definition of rock and roll. Joe ------------------------------ From: Otto von Ruggins Date: Wed, 07 May 1997 13:12:37 +0000 Subject: Terry Knight Where Are You? Dear Grand Fans, Please excuse this unpopular request for information, but I really don't know where else to turn. I used to listen to Terry Knight on CKLW in the early 60's when he played the most amazing British releases before anyone. Since I have lived in NY all my life, I can attest that not even Murray the K was playing the Zombies, the Kinks, Them & the Pretty Things (Phil May's hair was even longer than Mark Farner's back then). Anyway, one night he played an incredible track that I never heard again. It sounded like a cross between the Animals & Them, with a great organ & harmonica solo. The only line I can recall (mind you, this was 35 years ago) is, "Now she's the queen..." Terry is the only one I have a hope that will be able to remember the song and tell me the artist & title. I know he had a falling out with GFR and that later he retired from the music industry to Westport, CT, but that was some 20 years ago. Does anyone on this list a) know the song I speak of (or even where to get another track he played called, "The Man In the Glass" by the Underdogs, which was a local Detroit band, I believe) or b) know the whereabouts of Terry Knight and how to contact him to see how his memory is these days. Thanks for any enlightenment...I am, otto von Ruggins, Master of the Unheard of P.S. Please email me directly with any info so as not to disturb the list with whatever responses I may generate. Thanks! ------------------------------ From: Mike Butler <1kfunkrr@vegasnet.net> Date: Wed, 07 May 1997 10:20:15 -0700 Subject: Mick, Phil & Donna I've been at a class the last two days. This list is addicting. I couldn't wait to get home and check my email. You guys sure know how to write. Wow, the concert reports put me right back there! Without a doubt you are the Mark, Don & Mel of writing! I was thinking all the way home about 'Woodfunk' 98. I haven't picked-up a set of drum sticks in 20 years. These shows have got me fired-up. To all you 'funk fans' who have sent checks for 'Funkengruven' tees - they will be going out today, I promise! Donna introduced me to Sunny as 'the guy who made the tee shirts'. She said she thought they looked great, and that without them she would have never recognized anyone at the (Beacon) show! I'm supposed to get my pictures back tonight. If they turn out I'll try to scan them right away for all to see. - -=Mike=- Hey Max . . . I mean Mick, you gotta get internet access at home. We have to have you on this list man. ------------------------------ From: In2theSon@aol.com Date: Wed, 7 May 1997 13:20:15 -0400 (EDT) Subject: List & Vote Okay, I see the list, On Time Grand Funk (the red album) Grand Funk Live Mark, Don & Mel Survival Phoenix Shinin' On All the Girls in the World Beware Born To Die Though All of these are great, I MUST BE MISSIN' something here? Where's CLOSER TO HOME....E PLURIBUS FUNK....AND GRAND FUNK WE'RE AN AMERICAN BAND? (I'm not yelling at you, just excited.) They need to all be available though I would prefer them to be digitally remixed for the full CD effect (and that the Band be there during the mixing process). I know I can't have everything you want, but if I have to chose: On Time (more bass please)/ Grand Funk (the red album) / Closer to Home (I know it wasn't there*) /the Live Album (and the people in the front row)/ E Pluribus Funk (*ditto) / Grand Funk We're An American Band (*ditto) / and anything else they would want to do. I'm going now to seek a Federal grant to fund this new project of the "arts" in my home. Roadkill..... To keep from jonesin' too bad waiting for '98, why not consider some regional Funkfests in 1997? It wouldn't be that hard to plan a weekend gig on the Left Coast, Right Coast, Midwest, Mountain, etc., and make it work. Hell, we could even throw them on the same weekend and set up communications. The year is still young.......... narqualung ------------------------------ From: "NH Borger" Date: Wed, 7 May 1997 19:41:05 +0200 Subject: GFR CD's at CDWORLD Check this out: You can order directly from: http://gate.cdworld.com/cgi-bin/nav?gfunk&2122886 the following CD's: • WE'RE AN AMERICAN BAND . .
