I know Liz and I had a great time at the Beacon and at the Westside Brewery meeting the fellow funk fans. Who knew that after more than 20 years since the show in Hershey Pa. we would meet you guys who were also there as we all chanted...one..two..three...four, open up the f-----g door!! (2) Liz and I just finished reviewing the Home & Family show that we taped today....this has got to be the lamest, most disgusting thing I've seen on TV in quite a while. No Grand Funk...only minute after minute of ridiculous people doing absurd things. Let me tell ya...when I was done, I had such a bad case of achada, I had to take a Pepcid. (3) I don't care what the critics say about anything, esp. GFR. Talk to five critics and you'll get 5 different responses to the same thing. If the critics can't recognize that Mark, Don and Mel are truly nice people and great musicians and that the music they made, and will be making, has influenced rock music more than any other band I know of..then they, the critics can kiss my italian a-s. How do you feel about the people of Bosnia who are to benefit from this show? Do you have something negative to say about that? Did the Bosnian Ambassador being referred to as Mo bother you? You should be ashamed of what you wrote, never mind your writing style. Your opinion carries no weight with anyone I knew who attended this concert. I would like to know where you learned to write? The flow of the review was very choppy and your thoughts seemed unorganized. Here's some advice for your next review: 1. One thought per sentence please 2. Try to avoid run on sentences 3. Determine who your audience is before writing 4. Proof read 5. Ask yourself, am I making sense 6. Gretchen "Funk" I am writing in response to the Grand Funk Review written by Stanley Mieses. I was very angry, not only with the review itself but also with the way it was written. I am an 18 year old female who loves Grand Funk. Stanley Mieses wrote that Grand Funk is "clearly a boys band." I don't know where he got this information. Did he just base this on the crowd at the concert? Maybe it was just a matter of not getting there. I could not go because I could not miss any more school, and I had some other important things to take care of. Believe me, I regret not going after I heard all of the great reviews from Grand Funk lovers. Stanley Mieses also wrote, "I don't think I ever want to be at another show where a fat, blading guy in his 40's looped on beer, stands gesturing wildly with devilhorns and shouting "Heartbreaker,...." Is he just jealous because many woman still think that Mark Farner is sexy? No matter what he looks like or how old he gets, I will always remember him for giving me great music to listen to. Just knowing that a man in his late 40's that still has this much impact on peoples views of music is amazing. He still has all that talent after all of these years. The last thing that I want to comment on has to do with Stanley Mieses statement about the band not changing it's style of music from the days of their greatest hits. Isn't this what made us all fall in love with Grand Funk in the first place. This is what we want. We don't want them coming out with new music that doesn't sound like it would be Grand Funk. We want Grand Funk! Mr. Mieses also wrote that the lyrics are all about "possessing genitalia and guitars." Mark Farner, Don Brewer and Mel Schacher are musicians, not poets. If Mr. Mieses was so worried about the lyrics, what he should have done was reviewed a book. Thank You, Gretchen Garland 315-455-5372 ------------------------------ From: "William A. But I SURE HOPE that MD&M don't play "Some Kind of Wonderful" or "Locomotion". God, these are the songs they are most laughed at for, even though they are excellently done. And neither were real GFR tunes. I for one will be VERY disappointed if they do either of these. I am keeping my fingers crossed! Leno only gives the musicians on the show about 4 minutes (so that he can have half an hour for his own usually inane bull-caca at the beginning of the show), so our "boys" have limited time to remind old fans how great they are, and to blow the socks off of the younger crowd. So kick some butt, guys! Think about it: if you do "SKOW" or "Loco" or even "WAAB", or even "IYCaptain", it will be "old news" for most of the crowd - they will say "yep, that's Grand Funk, uh-huh, OK" or "oh yeah, I think I heard that tune on the 'classic rock' station last week" - in other words, nostalgia city or "old-f#@$ city". But if you come out with "Into the Sun", "Paranoid", "I Come Tumbling", or any one of DOZENS of butt-kicking powertunes, I just can't help but KNOW that you will gain many many MANY new fans. Let's face it - early GFR has more power and raw energy and emotion than ANY of the younger grunge or punk bands that are popular. You play any of those old rockers, and you are going to blow their minds, guys! He was absolutely blown away by songs like Sin's A Good Man's Brother, In Need and, of course, Paranoid. However, I'll bet we get the soft stuff tonight. Actually, I'm surprised they're not playing down by the river, which seems to be the preferred venue in this town. GFR at Robinson will be killer...great band, great acoustics, no bad seats, and 2635 dedicated rock fans. If any list members plan on attending the Little Rock show, let me know.
