Yeah, I don't think the LA show is sold out either because I called them yesterday to see if tickets are still available and they said yes? This is what the DJ Gary Fox posted on Jeff's site: "As far as Craig Frost: he was never an official member of GFR. He was a salaried keyboardist. There was at one time a dispute between he and Mark over this. Mark played the keyboards during the studio recording of "Mean Mistreater". Craig thought on the road he should play it and Mark just sing the lead vocals. Mark said he would play them instead since he recorded it. Craig didn't like it and said that he was the keyboardist in the group. Mark had to remind Craig that he was just a salaried employee and that he should do what he was told. When they hired Craig, they inclueded him in the photos for the LP jackets since they had all grown up together. I heard Craig was here in town last week and talked to a friend of mine. Craig is still playing for Bob Seger." #1 Has anyone ever heard this before? I haven't! #2 Does this make sense to anyone else? I've always thought that he was truly a band member rather than just a "salaried employee". At least that's the way I viewed him. Parrette" Date: Mon, 31 Mar 1997 09:49:15 -0500 (EST) Subject: 'Net-Funk Tee-shirts Hi all, There has been some mention -- both on-list and off-list -- of how all of us 'Net-Funk fans might be able to recognize each oth- er once we get to the concerts. Greg Wereley had suggested a bumper sticker and the phrase Grand Funkengruven. That ignited a spark in my mind which led to the "logo" at the bottom of my Con- cert Contact page. Then, I had suggested that I might make a tee-shirt with the logo on it and then Mike Butler mentioned a silk-screening company whose Web-page he hosts. Things have kind of taken off from there ... What we need to do is to judge the interest in this project before any money is invested. The tees would be a high-quality white shirt with the Funkengruven logo on one side and the words Grand Funk in the standard font on the other. Cost would be $10 if you will pick it up at the show and $15 if you would like it mailed to you.. But, before Mike proceeds, we have to know how many folks *will absolutely* buy one. The minimum order this company will accept is for 48 shirts and there is a two-week lead time before the shirts would be finished. I don't want to leave Mike "hold- ing the bag" on this so we need to know if there is any real in- terest. Mike will be attending both the Detroit and Los Angeles shows but we could probably arrange to transfer some to one of the folks attending the Detroit and New York shows. If you're inter- ested in obtaining one of these shirts -- truly interested -- please e-mail mike directly at: 1kfunkrr@vegasnet.net I guess it would be appropriate to let him know how many shirts you would buy and what sizes you wanted. They have considered it in the past and it is the only gold record of GFR's that is not available on CD as either an import or domestic release. So it makes sense that this is our best shot. If successful we can then work on Born To Die and Good Singin' Good Playin'. We must take the initiative if we want to hear our favorite music again. All I ask is that you email me einar@rfci.net stating your desire to have this album reissued on CD. I will do everything else from that point. Easy for you huh?! Your email address will not be used for any other purpose other than to be sent to Capitol Records in the form of a petition. And, now for the *bad news*: The information agent at The Palace also told me that there would be no cameras allowed. If you want to double check the number for The Palace is 810/337-0100. > ... > Hey Bill or Greg, what about Detroit? The word is that is going to be > the big production ... Again, a "word" that *I* have is that both VH-1 and Time/Warn- er will be recording the event. VH-1 may use bits and pieces for individual songs on the air or they may put together a special -- it hadn't been decided yet. I believe the Time/Warner folks are recording the event for a home-video release but I haven't con- firmed this. Another "word" that I have is that the band will record the concert for a future live-CD release. The rumor or "reliable source" says that there will be a new arrangement of Closer To Home with the orchestra that will be one of the highlights of the show/album. And, the last"word" I have is that according to the new (used without permission) Flint Journal article I just posted, former Beatle Ringo Starr, Bob Seger, and members of Van Halen and the Black Crowes are among those rumored to be participating. I have also read elsewhere that Ted Nugent (who is supposed to be tour- ing with GFR after the three initial shows) will also appear. > ... > Bill says in Detroit we are gonna get together for a little party in our > suite Saturday night, 'Are you ready' Yep! Although we can't officially call it a party according to the hotel management, Jeff and I would like to invite you all to stop by. See my recent Sleepless in Detroit post for more in- formation. And for Bill...You know how we were talking about songlists for shows that people saw. Well here's the songlist for the '71 Boston Garden show. It's quite different from any of the other stuff I've heard, both the mixture of songs and the order they played them in and the fact that they cut several of the songs short. I believe they even left out a verse in Heartbreaker! It's a Rockin' show though! 1. Footsompin' Music 2. Upsetter 3. I Come Tumblin' 4. Mean Mistreater 5. Feelin' Alright 6. Closer To Home 7. But, many of them won't be able to attend one of these three big shows that we're all so pumped about. Listen, ah, brothers and sisters in the front row when you stand up like that and ah, ah, get on each other's shoulders showing off your new tee-shirts, caps, and such that you bought as souvenirs, our other friends back home will be getting a lit- tle envious. So, let's give them a chance too, okay? If you're feeling a little altruistic and can financially af- ford it, maybe we can pick up a few spare souvenirs to sell to our other list-friends back home. A shirt or two, a cap, maybe a couple of extra posters could be bought and sold at cost (please don't "scalp" our brothers and sisters) back to other members of the list. Perhaps those that are feeling "In Need" should post to the list about the kinds of things they might be interested in.
