Hi all, Latest update on the Auburn Hills show tickets. Tickets still go on sale on Friday, March 14 at 10 a.m. at both TicketMaster and the Palace box office. Ticket prices are still $22.50 and $12.50. The Palace *WILL NOT* accept credit card orders the first day of ticket availability on Friday -- they will accept cash at the window only. Credit card purchases on Friday must be done through TicketMaster. The Palace still has a 12 ticket purchase limit but the agent at TicketMaster said that there was no limit there. TicketMaster's number in Michigan is 810/645-6666 while the Palace's number is 810/377-0100. At the moment, there are three of us out-of-towners planning to travel to the show that would like to try to sit together: 1) Bill Parrette aka the grokster 2) Jeff Cochran aka Funkola 3) Mike Butler aka 1kfunkrr and possibly Chris Robertson aka Chrash Test Chris + ??? My wife says she will make the call to order the tickets for us -- she's not a Funk-head but I believe she'll try to get the best seats possible. I will direct her to try to get $22.50 floor seats that are in the center as close as possible together. This may be 8 seats in one row or something like 6 in one row and 6 directly behind. As for ticket limitations they said that there are usually no limits on the amount you can buy, except if they are dealing with a huge line on the day of the show. There is no way of knowing until you get there. Tickets are available for cash only at the box office. Tickets can be charged through Ticketmaster. And tickets go on sale simultaneously at the box office and Ticketmaster. So for all of you panic stricken individuals out there not trusting that I can get tickets for you, you can sit and keep hitting re-dial until you get through and purchase as many seats as your plastic will hold. At this time, I'm getting 15 tickets (for all of you that responded). I plan to meet two of my buddies at the Beacon box office the day they go on sale, so we should have no problem getting that many seats. The second thing is the hell with that keyboard player in the backgroung "we" don't need him anyway - just like the old days. Just remember we never thought this was going to happen and it is right before our eyes. When I first saw Mark on tour, back in 87, I spoke with his brother and asked about them (GFR) getting back together and his reply was - no way, all they do when they did get together is fight. Are you getting the floor seats at $22.50 each? Is 20 your maximum? At the moment, here are the list members that I'm aware of that would like tickets. Bill Parrette (me) -- 1 ticket Jeff Cochran -- 1 ticket Mike Butler -- 1 ticket Phil Catalano -- 2 tickets Chris Robertson -- 2(+?) tickets If you still have 7 seats left over, this would fill them up. The reason I ask if 20 is your limit is that "Crash Test Chris" says he may be bringing more people with him. Chris is supposed to check in this evening with a final count on how many he is bringing. It would be better (I think) if we could get you (a "local") to coordinate the purchase for us if you can. You have probably even been to the Palace before and know what seats will be best. My wife will be willing to do our purchase if you can't but I thought it would be better if we could *all* sit together! *PLEASE* let me know this evening what, if anything, you can do for us. We need to know if you will purchase our tickets, how much the TicketMaster (or whatever) service charge will add to it, and how soon you need our payment sent to you and where to send it. *OR* if we should continue with our original plan. Feel free to call me if you need to -- my number is always in my signature below. Jeff, Mike, Phil, and Chris -- feel free to call me also if you have any concerns. > ... as well as meet and give input on accomadations and travel > details etc. ... I and Jeff (at a minimum) are driving up together and would probably appreciate a little information on hotels in the area. I was thinking of trying to form a little get-together either the night before or the morning of the concert. So, maybe a little information on local clubs or night spots that wouldn't mind a group of 20 or so folks getting together demanding that the D.J. play all Grand Funk all night would be helpful too But we can take care of this last part later. Right now we have to resolve this ticket issue -- we have to resolve it tonight. I will be away from my phone and computer between about 8:30 and 9:30 p.m. EST tonight but I should have access to both fairly quickly most any other time. > ... if you are interested i will offer my work # and will speak > with anyone before hand ... I should have responded to this earlier -- a work number won't help the ticket issue unless they call you before 10 a.m. That was the time that tickets were supposed to go on sale and the time I was going to have my wife start calling. But feel free to post it if you like so that other folks can call you if they need to. Will you be making the order from work? How does your employ- er feel about that? ;-) Or are they big Funk fans too? :-) Greg, I hope I don't have too much of a sense of urgency. I really enjoy what I call very early Frand Funk, that is their first 3 albums. I got turned on to them in February 1970. I was stationed at Ft. Carson Army Hospital as a Medic. I had been drafted in September 1969. A combat medic veteran named Pat Bradley fresh from 'Nam and the 1st Cav, had the Funk's (as we called them) first album. In July 1970 I got shipped to Ludwigsburg Germany and the 30th Medical Group. It was no surprise that Grand Funk got more air time in the barracks than groups like Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple etc. I clearly remember playing their live album over and over on New Year's Day 1971. Paranoid, Heartbreaker, and Inside Looking Out were the favorites. However, To get to the Scweinfurt concert ----- I had been reassigned to the 32nd Surgical Hospital in Wurzburg in February 1971. Again, I found a lot of Funk fans. Grand Funk was touring Europe during the Summer of 1971. We didn't think to much about it figuring we would not have a chance of getting tickets, making the trip, etc. Apparently, Funk was scheduled to play in Frankfurt, but there were too few tickets and riots broke out (or so we were told). Anyway, the Frankfurt concert was cancelled and Funk agreed to put on a free show for the G.I.s. A portable air hanger was set up as a stage on an old air strip in Scweinfurt, which is about 30 miles from Wurzburg. It was a beautiful summer evening. Several thousand G.I.s sat on the airstrip facing the converted hanger. The sun was just setting behind the hanger when Humple Pie opened the show. It was completely dark when Grand Funk hit the stage. The Army had brought up tanks with spotlights around the perimeter of the crowd. These were used to light the stage. It was an awesome sight and an awsome concert. To see those guys live, for free, outdoors is something I'll never forget. Aside from the fact the Army did not send me to 'Nam the Grand Funk concert in Scweinfurt was the best thing that happened to me during my hitch. I hope some or all the memebers of the band get a chance to read this. Thanks guys for a great concert and some great music and memories. We had a blast. Anyway, now I`m about to build up a complete CD-collection. It`s hard to get gfr-discs in Europe. I`ve been separated twice, but this summer I`ll get married.I`ve got 4 kids of my own, and one extra. I`m a local (liberal) politician(!) and I`m also making two weekly radioshows on the local fm-station.A great opportunity to play some funky music and deliver the mission of "foot- stompin` music" in the village!=20 I would like to create a gfr-site on the swedish meeting place called "passagen" with links to the great gfr-sites in the U.S. I guess I`d have to get some help with this project in order to make it look real good and professional.I feel sort of isolated here in the north! I have Grand Funk "Caught in the Act" on video but I would like to find the concert that was on "In Concert" back in about 1975. I went to my last GFR concert in November of 1974 in Cleveland and remember they were on TV sometime after that. I would love to go to one of the 3 upcoming concerts but work prohibits that. I hope they will have more shows coming up. GFR was to play at the state fair this past summer in Louisville, KY. I didn't read the news paper that weekend and didn't know they had to cancel. I drove from Lexington to Louisville that night listening to GFR in my car all the way. I had great seats when I got to the fair. When Mountain came out I thought they were a front band. After 2 songs they mentioned they were happy to take GFR's place. I leaned aver to the guy next to me and said "they're shittin me aren't they?" He said it was true. I got up very pissed and drove all the way home. Couldn't sleep that night. I was pissed for days. Please let me know if there are any tapes out there. All I know is that EVERY rumor I've posted has come fruition. My sources are reliable. GFRR DID hold a press confrence in NY last WED. I was the one that posted on Donna's site back in FEB that they would be playing on April 20 at the Palace for a benefit for Bosnia. I'm telling you all that the show in Detroit will be the MAIN show of this three show gig. The other two will be cool but not nearly the production that the Detroit show will be. If you can make it to Detroit, do it. Nugent WILL be performing as well as the Black Crows. Other guest artist are being discussed but nothing firm at this time. GFRR have also booked other dates for later with Nugent as Co-Headliner. I don't have the dates or cities yet. Someone asked who QBQ was. They are the booking agent that is handling GFRR. Later, Jim PS. I recently heard a bootleg tape (fair quality) of two GFRR shows. One from Boston, 1971 and the other from Boston 1972. The 1971 show is absolutely KILLER!!! The '7show is cool too. It is the Phoenix tour. ------------------------------ From: thesonics@earthlink.net (Jay Siekierski) Date: Sat, 15 Mar 1997 12:54:13 -0800 (PST) Subject: OLD TED & GFR!!!!!!!!! yes I heard it toooooo. jay! the OLD FOUL MOUTHED MOTORCITY MADMAN IS BACK IN THE SADDLE AGAIN!!!!!!!!!! Since the following information is freely available on the Web for those who want to find it, let's get it out on the open. As you all know, David Fishof Presents, Inc. is the band's current manager: David Fishof Presents, Inc. 252 W 71st St. New York, NY 10023-3752 (212)757-1605 What you may not have known is that the band also has a book- ing agency that is handling concert bookings separately: Q B Q Entertainment, Inc. 341 Madison Ave New York, NY 10017-3705 (212)949-6900 As *I* understand it (and who knows how that works :-) ), af- ter the three initial U.S. concerts, Fishof says that the band will play a gig in Bosnia itself. Then, there are some rumors that I haven't been able to confirm about a few European dates. Then, it is sure that the band will have a short tour of Japan. And, finally, they will be back in the States to finish up with a summer U.S. tour. I have heard that QBQ is soliciting dates through the end of August. I believe that for the U.S. arm of the tour, QBQ is try- ing to book GFR with Ted Neugent as an opening act. I'd like to ask the list to not bother these folks with ques- tions. In my experience, unless you have a real event that you want to book the band at -- with backing, proposals, and lots of paperwork proof that you're serious -- they will more than likely just ignore you. And, if we want this reunion tour to continue and be successful, we don't want to get anybody angry with us. So, be cool, watch the PollStar and the TicketMaster sites (and the three Web pages :-) ) for concert location announcements and let's get ready to ride the railroad one more time. Take care and grok in fullness ... Bill-- ...who never puts off until tomorrow what he can avoid altogether. (\____/) (42?)
