Hi all, A little trivia for you here: Did you know that a gold album is awarded when 1 million *dol- lars* worth of a record has been sold. But, when a million units (1 million copies of the record) have been sold -- approximately 4 million dollars worth (in Grand Funk's heyday) -- for this there *was* no official award. Then, after Mark, Don, Mel, and Craig had received their gold discs for "Shinin' On" and their hit single "The Loco-Motion," Capitol Records had a surprise announcement. After a little checking they found that "Shinin' On" had not only qualified as a gold LP for selling a million dollars' worth of vinyl, but also as a platinum platter after selling over 1,200,000 *copies* with- in eight weeks of release. A little further digging showed that all of Grand Funk's records had by then been marketed to over a million turntables. On that day, Grand Funk Railroad received the biggest award ever collected by a rock band -- 33 platinum albums! There were ten each for Don, Mark, and Mel and three for Craig Frost. It was a great joy to find a discussion group about my all time favourite band GFR. A long long time ago (I was 13 ) i heard the Live album for the first time and I was sold for the rest of my life, since then I started collecting GFR music, I bought all albums released after the Live album on the first day of issue. It was a shock to me when GFR split up, luckily Mark made two great albums with the MF band. After that GFR released two more albums and then it looked like that was it. A few years later I found Mark's Just Another Justice - on this CD there was the adress of his minisry , through a lot of phone calls and faxes I manged to get Mark on the phone and I had the privilige to talk to him. Finally I could thank him for all that his music has done for me - due to GFR I quit using drugs ( E Pluribus Funk), nowadays I am running a 25 million dollar company. GFR meant and still means a lot to me. The GFR stuff I have On Time Closer to Home Grand Funk Live Album Survival E Pluribus Funk Mark Don & Mel Phoenix We're an American Band ( the golden version) Shinin'on ( including destitute&loosing) All the girls in the world beware! The only song they played witha dominant keyboard part was "Footstompin' Music". Craig Frtost was with them, yet he didn't even play the keyboard line in the song; Mark Farnar did. I'v always wondered just what the purpose of having Craig Frost was. He was always like Chick Churchill in Ten Years After; completely in teh background. I always thought both Churchill and Frost were added just so the guitars would have had something to tune to (grin). Has there ever been any rationale for the addition of Frost or teh small part he played? A second query. It's been claaimed by may that Grand Funk was an anti-drug band. Yet songs like "American Band:and "Inside Looking Out" (not to mention that songs intro on the second live album) are anything but anti-drug. What's the story? A third query. Is "On Time" out on CD? I bought the album when it first came out and managed to replace it about five years ago. It's my favourite, despite Terry Knights woeful engineering. Thanks, all.
