Hmmm, I still hear "Gimmie Shelter" and the other hit off the Survival album "Feelin' Alright" on the classic radio stations more than I do even "Closer To Home" and you say it was the big encore number.... Wouldn't you say that most bands wait for the encore to play the song they think most people came to hear? (("Taint true for us TRUE Funker's though)) :-) Ever heard any song from the Red Album on a classic rock station? So...these two from Survival MUST have been a big hits for them... I agree with everyone else the Rockin' stuff is better...and am understanding your dislike for it...but Survival is an interesting piece of work by this band... I have lived in Indiana, Ohio, Illinois and Arizona and I have not heard them in 26 years. I HAVE heard the Rolling Stones Version of the song alot, even as recently as yesterday. I have also heard the Three Dog Night version of Feelin Alright, but never GFR. Try to remember that in 1971 GFR was an OUTLAW band by most radio station standards. They were an underground happening. Not that I have an opinion, but, I think both of those songs are totally LAME. (I know I can spell that right) But the GFR universe is a very diverse place and we each have our own favorites. Mine is Closer to Home. I love the live version of Inside Lookin' out. Weird man....the classic radio stations around here still play the two dreaded hits you think are lame all the time...at least twice a day for both those tunes. They still play "Captain" and "American Band" and "Walk Like A Man". Those are the four GFR tunes we still hear around here. GFR was by no means and outlaw band in Virginia....everyone LOVED them and in '71 quite a few songs off "E Pluribus" got radio play...as did many of the one's from "Closer To Home" that they don't play any more...like "Mean Mistreater" and "Hooked On Love", and "Get It Together". I fully understand you hate the Survival album and that's fine. Also understand everyone had their favorites....mine is "No Lies" Must be a geographical thing because I didn't even know Three Dog Night covered "Feelin' Allright"....never heard it . - -- -=[ Bruce ]=- /~~\_/~\ ,,, | #=#==========# \_/~\_/ ``` ------------------------------ From: mr.blues@juno.com (Bruce A Thomas) Date: Sat, 22 Feb 1997 07:46:58 EST Subject: Changing address... Here in Vegas, the classic rock stations *rarely* play any GFR. If they do it's 'Closer to Home' or 'Were an American Band'. I've got to the point I don't listen to the classic rock station here. How many times can a person listen to Bob Seager, over & over again (nothing against Seager). This is what brought me back to my GFR roots. I can honestly say I don't hate ANY of the GRF albums. Hmmm, guess were lucky here in Virginia then :-) We do hear a bit more of the Fab Three than the two you mentioned. I do agree however that the Classic rock station like to wear out the same old tunes without regard to all the great tunes on all the old albums that were meant to be musically divine and not a radio "hit". >I can honestly say I don't hate ANY of the GRF albums.
