I added myself to the mailing list yesterday. I tried the official GFR e-mail address QBERT50@AOL.Com. It's true, the reply was: Yes, it is true, this is where you should send all your GFR fan mail Greg wherely wrote something about new recorded GFR songs on Jeff's and Donna's Logbook. Will they finally be issued on CD? Something to ask QBERT50. William, are you Bill from New Jersey with all the great Trivia Questions on Jeff's log? Carl Bratcher, fixed his logbook. It doesn't reject the signing anymore. He also added an original graphics page done by Roy Long (snap shots from the GFR video's). Jeff why don't you add him to your "other GFR sites" list? http://sloth.rpi.net.au/~loki/grand-funk/ I ordered the audience recorded '96 GFR concert music cassette from CrashTestChris. I should receive it about 3 week from now. Can't wait to hear it, having read the songlist of that tour..... My requests to the radio station in The Netherlands for playing GFR songs didn't have much result yet. Usually they play Somekind of wonderful once every 6 months. How often is GFR heard on the radio in the States? Which songs are played and how often? There is an internet address from this Dutch radio station where you can vote for your song to be played from 2 to 6 pm every friday. All you need to do is fill in your request, name and e-mail address. You don't have to be Dutch, this programme can be listened to by real-audio. So if we find about 100 GFR fans to vote on We're an American Band, it can get into the top 50 to be played. I'm afraid I won't be easy to get so much fans to do the request. If anyone is interested in the address of this site I will look it up. Well that's quite much written for just one message...... Did you people know that in 1994 Capitol reissued 'Were An American Band' & 'Closer To Home' on vinyl? Yes.....I said vinyl! Just like the good old days. According to Jay Sonic they were testing the market (aren't they always) for additional releases. This is backwards ass thinking to me. Yeah, if signing up for this mailing list is any exam- ple, GFR fans are a little slow moving in their old ages. A month sounds like a reasonable time frame -- let's see what the stats say at that time. Again, all of you Grand Funk fans know what to do! Granted, I don't hang out at music stores much any more, but it's hard to imagine a vinyl release. But then again, my son worked at a local Camelot Music store a year or so ago and was quite proud of himself for snagging some copies of some old Beatles vinyl re-releases. I forget if they were Apple-labeled or Capitol-labeled though. I wonder how vinyl re-releases would go over now with the re- union getting publicized and pending? > I figure this list will eventually kill my Logbook participation. On a related note, however, you might have noticed that I didn't participate much in those log-book conversations. Maybe I've been around the 'Net too long now -- it just seemed a weird place to try to carry on a conversation. Mailing lists just seem such a much more natural forum for these types of things. Well, after reading the Flint newspaper article (which I have HTML-ized off of one of the pages off of my Grand Funk Web site), after reading Greg's note, and after e-chatting with Greg recent- ly, I can't help but believe that this is the plan. But, some- what against the rumor I saw posted "somewhere" not too long ago, I don't think the band has signed with a record company yet. If the newspaper article is any indicator, I think the tour will help bring the band back into the spotlight to the point of gaining the interest of a record company again. Personally, I'm voting for Capitol. Call me nostalgic if you will -- it just feels like that's where they belong. And, if they *do* go back with Capitol, I feel that there is a greater probability of get- ting *all* of the old catalog re-released. In addi- tion to Some Kind Of Wonderful, I can usually hear Closer To Home, We're An American Band, Rock 'N Roll Soul, and The Loco-mo- tion on a semi-regular basis. Some four years ago, I FAXed a lo- cal radio station trying to convince them to do a History of Grand Funk-type show. I included a pretty good argument as to why it would be good, a list of all of their hit songs, and a couple of other things that escape my memory right now. I never did hear anything from them though. Maybe I should try again. Well, Nico, thanks for the post! It's good to hear that Grand Funk rocks around the world -- all the way to the Netherlands. Interesting question -- and one that I have given some thought to. It seems to me that the band and/or it management will prob- ably not want to be "living in the past" (I know, I know -- wrong band again! ;-) ). So, I'm not sure how much history they would put on their "official" pages. One thing that the current Grand Funk Web authors have to their advantage is the coverage of that history. Now, if they decide to do some pages with a historical perspective, I may have to re-think my position. But for the time being I believe I would leave my pages up. Us Web authors would always hope that the "official" page would want to link to our unofficial pages, wouldn't we? And, besides that, I think that my lyrics section has some worth. I've got some folks who have sent me some tablatures as well and these two things together might be worth keeping the site around for bands to do covers if "our boys" and their man- agement will let me keep them up. All I have to do is get off of my butt and finish those lyric transcriptions! Jeff, will I get a prize if I use the word "butt" three times in this post? ;-) > ... > All: I think I may have the latest photos of Mark Farner ... Cool! I hope that you will post here on the list when you get them up on your site. I think that the picture that I clipped out of the 1996 National Cherry Festival program in Traverse City (on my More Pictures page) doesn't do Mark justice -- it will be good to see these new ones. BTW, Jeff, I'm already envious of the coming press-kit section (or whatever it was that you called it) that you announced on your site. It must be nice to have contacts! :-) Will that count as pay-back for me starting this mailing list? ;-) > ... > Does anyone know what Schacher (pronounced Shocker) has been doing all > of these years? ... I would really like to know the answer to this too. Of all of the pages on my site that I would like to improve the most, my Interlude page would come in first. I would really like to put a lot more detail in there. There's a bit on Mark, a little on Don, and I even mention Craig, but nowhere have I ever found what Mel was up to in the interim. When I was doing the research for my site, I snail- and e- mailed Capitol Records and this is one of the questions that I asked. I even wrote Mark personally and asked this, among other questions. As someone wrote to me previously, it seems like there's just so much secrecy about most anything to do with the band -- so much so that it's starting to get annoying! Ooops, here I am at the end of the message and I didn't use the special word three times. Oh well. ;-) "Hey all you people, for goodness sake, let's get together, what does it take ...?" No, I'm not talking about stopping the war -- I'm talking about discussing that Footstompin' Music ... that Rock 'N Roll Soul ... let's chat some more about Grand Funk Railroad!
