Good morning....
I was at work a few nights back and cruising the Net..I figured I would drop in on the Wounded Bird Records website to check out the upcoming releases. And what do I see?
Looks like "Flint" is making its debut on CD at last. CD Universe shows it being available at the end of March. Wounded Bird has done a fine job with the titles they have released thus far and I look forward to picking this up. I found the "Flint" album in Record World at Roosevelt Field back in August 1979; I remember this vividly because I was listening to it on the parent's stereo...headphones of course! My mother interrupted the proceedings to tell me that Thurman Munson had been killed in a plane crash; it was on the news.
Mu impression of the album then as now is that it seemed like the guys weren't quite sure what direction they wanted to take...it wasn't hard rock, a fair amount of R&B, and a bit of prog in the shape of the Mellotron in "You"ll Never Be The same". Oh yeah, and the guys call in a a few favors with the guest players....Frank Zappa beats the stuffing out of "Better You Than Me" and Todd Rundgren whips out some psych-metal on the Yardbirds' classic "For Your Love".
A little good news in these crazy times!
