I'm Your Captain in Myrtle Beach, SC

  • This September, the Pavillion in Myrtle Beach, SC will be closed after 40+ years.  One of my "Grand Funk Moments" happenned there in July of 1970.  Our church youth group (I was 15 years old) had a weekend retreat at Myrtle Beach State Park.  I took along a record player and the just released GFR album "Closer To Home".  On that particular Saturday evening we drove into town to enjoy the amusement park, roller coaster and the Pavillion.  I remember walking around inside the Pavillion and all of a sudden, "I'm Your Captain" starts playing over the sound system.  It was magnificent!!!  To this day, every time I visit Myrtle Beach, I think of that special time.  We will definately go back up there once more, and I shall walk around the Pavillion and think back, when Grand Funk Railroad, brought me "Closaer To Home".
