Here's the deal, friends.
Mason, OH (
http://www.imaginemason.org), is literally 10 minutes away from my house. The "Red Rhythm & Boom Celebration" (
http://www.pulsejournal.com/hp/content/oh/story/news/local/2008/02/12/pjm021208masonfest.html) is the town's annual Independence Day celebration. And, one of the two "name" bands playing this year is Grand Funk Railroad (
http://www.grandfunkrailroad.com/departures.htm). Finally, almost literally in my "back yard.'
Speaking of my "back yard ..."
On the following day, July 4th, I will be hosting a "4th of July party" in my back yard. We usually do a "fireworks thing" for family and friends. But, since I know that there are more than a few of the old "roadkill"ers that are within driving distance of Cincinnati, I'm announcing an extended invitation to any of the old and new "roadkill" members to our party. You're in the area anyway, why not stay over a day and party. This announcement serves as official notice of a "Roadkill Reunion."
Here's what I propose to do:
My son's band usually has a 4th of July party and I'm going to ask them to party, instead, at my house complete with the band's equipment. I want to get my garage cleaned up enough so the band has a place to play. All this so that if any of the "roadkill" members want to bring along a guitar or something, we can do some GFR jamin'. Of course I will set up
THE drums.
I will also -- probably -- set up my ol' grill for anyone that wants to cook. But there are also many fast food places nearby. Heck, if enough people say that they will be there, we might even cater the thing. I usually set up some bear and soda, but ... Be aware: there is only one bathroom in the house! There are various chairs and couches to crash on (i.e. spend the night) and certainly space for sleeping bags for those who would like to do that. But, since we're so close to King's Island theme park (
http://www.pki.com/), there are also a number of hotels in the area for those who don't like roughing it.
So, how 'bout it, folks? A night of fireworks and Grand Funk Railroad followed by a night of fireworks and "roadkill" memories. There's plenty of time to plan and talk about it here. "We're having a party and everybody's invited, the new generation along with the old ...
