Unreleased Grand Funk Tunes

  • Does anyone know how many tunes there are Unreleased That are still in the vaults. Has Davis K Tedds ever addressed that. Was there any more material that just wasn't used in the remasters that might still be useful?
There is still songs from Grand Funk Lives and What's Funk that were never released and wasn't there a couple of songs that were recorded but not released in 1996.  There might be enough for another CD of material and if not a good place to put a few new songs or RE-record some classics and add some Video to compliment the upcoming release in August maybe with a Holiday release.

  • Well, we know there are at least two new ones that did not make it on to the 30 years of funk CD's.

I can't say about how many more there may be, but I would suspect that there has to be some other unreleased stuff out there.

  • I recall distinctly that David said there were no more new (old) tunes left after the ones on the remasters (other than the reunion era cuts). That's why most of the bonus material is live versions of studio cuts.

  • Yeah, that's about right..GFR went into the studio and used what they had.....heads down and off they went. the stuff that David Tedds found was cool..the long versions of the songs from "Survival" are a fine example. In an interview in ICE Magazine done just before  the "30 Years Of Funk" set was released, David had asked they guys if any other songs were cut during the sessions for WAAB. They told him that the songs on the album were all they cut. While going through the multitrack tapes, David found a tape box with "Hooray" and "The End" written on it..he thought it was a comment on the fact that the sessions were complete. He put on the tape and found the two songs which, according to him, were 90% complete. There might be other rough versions of tunes in the vault e.g "Bare Naked Woman" and "Genevieve" but they are probably too rough/ unfinished/ to be of merit.

The extra songs cut during the sessions for "What's Funk" and "Grand Funk Lives" were held back in a dispute at the time of the CD's release and probably will never be released.....a shame!

  • There are 5 or 6 from the GFR -Meless reunion of the 80s. One of these has gotten out, its called Let It happen, and is much like Marks Christian Rock Music.
